Seattle Cosmetic Surgeons - Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatments

Facial Rejuvenation Seattle - Laser Skin Resurfacing

For effective facial rejuvenation, Seattle men and women often turn to laser skin resurfacing. An alternative to chemical peels and dermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing penetrates deep beneath the skin, smoothing wrinkles, stimulating collagen, fading discoloration, and targeting damage for a clear, youthful appearance. Cosmetic surgeons at The Gallery of Cosmetic surgery proudly offer laser skin resurfacing to patients in the Seattle area.

Over time, sun damage and the natural aging process visibly changes the appearance of our skin. Dry leathery appearance, age spots, and wrinkles develop as a result of years of damage. Using a fractionated CO2 laser (Fraxel Repair), problem areas can be targeted, such as facial scars, age spots, or fine lines around the mouth and eyes. Treatment can also cover the entire face, removing damaged skin, smoothing wrinkles, evening skin tone, and increasing firmness, with no scarring for a fresh, renewed look. Lasers used in this technique penetrate deeper beneath the skin than other resurfacing treatments such as chemical peels and dermabrasion. And though it does offer optimal anti-aging results, several treatments are sometimes needed for full rejuvenation.

Though laser skin resurfacing offers terrific results for those seeking changes to the skin's surface, it cannot provide the "lifting" effect sometimes needed to address sagging in the face, neck and jowls. For a more compete renewal, a face or neck lift can be performed on the same patient as laser skin resurfacing, though not at the same time. To maintain safety and promote healing, separation of some time is needed.

Recuperation following laser resurfacing usually requires 7 days, with the first 2-3 days requiring substantial home care. This care is aimed at removal of drainage and potential crusting which try to accumulate on the skin surface. After that time, your skin will be moderately red-pink and remarkably smoother. After the first week, it is often possible to begin applying light makeup, which will effectively mask remaining pink colors, blending them to look like a recent sunburn which has peeled. That light pink coloration gradually subsides over the first few weeks. Following any skin resurfacing effort, it is recommended that patients protect the skin with a sun protection lotion or cream with an SPF 30 or higher for the first 4-6 months. Sun protection is encouraged after that time, but may be somewhat reduced as the full thickness of the skin is restored.
