Hip Dip Fat Transfer Bellevue & Kirkland

In contrast to decades ago, the ideal feminine physique is curvy with well rounded buttocks, hips, and breasts. This has made procedures that augment these areas extremely popular among men and women. One of the problem areas that women tend to complain about most is hip dips. Unlike the breasts or buttocks, there is not an obvious way to address the hip dips for most patients. Thankfully, revolutions in buttock augmentation now let plastic surgeons fix hip dips with a minimally invasive procedure. The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery provides the best hip dip fat transfer Bellevue and Kirkland offers.

Overview: What Are Hip Dips?

The hip dips are small dips seen where the hips and thighs meet. Not all people have them and they are a perfectly natural formation that happens on bodies of all sizes. Due to the desire to have a smooth body contour from waist to hip, many people come to The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery wanting to address their hip dips.

There are multiple options to treat hip dips, but the most effective ones are fat transfer or Sculptra injections. Depending on the patient’s bone structure and anatomy, liposuction can also provide some enhancement with or without fat transfer. Dr. Jonov will evaluate these factors during your consultation appointment.

Causes

Hip dips are a natural part of the body due to the shape of the human pelvis. Often, losing or gaining weight will not make a difference in whether or not you have hip dips. Though, changes in weight either way can accentuate them. Muscle tone also contributes to hip dip formation, but even putting on muscle will not necessarily guarantee that the hip dips go away. Finally, another determinant is simply your own genetics.

Benefits Of Fat Transfer

Fat transfer to the hip dips comes with many benefits for patients wanting to fill in their hip dips. Since each patient has specific needs and goals, the benefits are somewhat individual. Some of the common benefits of undergoing a hip dip fat transfer include:

  • Filling in of hip dips
  • Smoother transition from waist to hips to buttocks/thighs
  • Creation of an hourglass figure
  • Fuller buttock appearance
  • Enhancement of liposuction areas
  • Removal of unnecessary fat
  • Effective of patients of many sizes
  • Minimally invasive procedure
  • Little to no scarring
  • Combinable with other surgeries
  • Low risk
  • Effective
  • Long lasting, if not permanent, results
  • Performed by an experienced plastic surgeon who specializes in body contouring

Fat Transfer vs. Sculptra For Hip Dips

As previously mentioned, there are two frequently used procedures for filling in hip dips: fat transfer and Sculptra. Both provide comparable results and are fundamentally similar. However, they do differ in a few major ways that may influence a patient’s decision on which will better fit their needs and lifestyle. The table below provides some insight into each procedure.

Fat TransferSculptra
  • Surgical procedure
  • Uses patient’s own fat
  • Enhances contours of other parts of the body with liposuction
  • Can be permanent
  • Fat takes hold in transferred area
  • Less likely to need more treatments
  • Cannot reject the fat and allergic reaction extremely rare
  • Short recovery required
  • Compression garment necessary
  • General anesthesia typically used
  • Harvestable, unwanted fat necessary
  • Non-surgical
  • Uses semi-permanent dermal filler, Sculptra
  • Only addresses hip dips and/or buttocks
  • Semi-permanent
  • Promotes collagen production
  • Will need subsequent sessions
  • Can reject the Sculptra and more risk of an allergic reaction (still low)
  • Less downtime
  • No compression garment
  • Local anesthesia only
  • Ideal for especially thin patients

The procedures are both fairly low risk and many patients are good candidates for both. Dr. Jonov can discuss your candidacy for each, the risks, and the benefits to help you determine the right treatment for you.

Before & After Hip Dip Fat Transfer

Before

Before undergoing a hip dip surgery, you will first meet with Dr. Craig Jonov. During your consultation appointment, Dr. Jonov will ask you about your goals for the procedure, medical history, and relevant aspects of your lifestyle. He will then perform an examination of the area to examine skin quality, the amount of fat viable for liposuction, and other factors. Dr. Jonov will then determine if you are a candidate for the surgery.

Following this, you will discuss all possible treatment options with Dr. Jonov and review the specifics of each procedure. He will provide an in-depth description of what each procedure would entail and the results you could expect.

During

On the day of your surgery, the Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery team will begin preparing you for surgery. You will then meet with Dr. Jonov to review the surgical plan. He may also make surgical markings before you are taken back to the operating room. A licensed anesthesia provider will then administer general anesthesia.

Dr. Jonov will start with liposuction to harvest the necessary fat. The amount he removes and the areas he treats will usually depend on if he is transferring fat anywhere outside of your hip dips and your anatomy. Liposuction requires only a small incision hidden in the natural creases of the body.

Once he collects enough fat, he purifies it, and then Dr. Jonov carefully injects it into the hip dips. Normally, to account for an expected amount of fat loss, he will transfer a little extra fat to ensure a good result.

After

The recovery from a surgical fat transfer to the hip dips generally involves around one week off work. From there, patients can expect around four to six weeks of an altered exercise routine. Patients will also need to refrain from laying on their side when sleeping. In general, you can expect protocols and instructions for your recovery like:

  • Take prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection
  • Avoid sleeping on areas where fat transfer occurred
  • Refrain from strenuous exercise beyond walking and some daily activities for around two weeks
  • If okayed by Dr. Jonov, some light exercise can begin at around two weeks
  • Expect bruising, swelling, and some post-operative pain
  • Do not smoke or drink during recovery
  • Attend all post-operative appointments
  • Wear your compression garments
  • After the first few days, resume a normal diet and avoid salty foods as this can prolong swelling

If you also undergo a BBL at the same time as your hip dip fat transfer, you can expect additional recovery instructions that include using a BBL pillow to prevent sitting directly on your buttocks. A Brazilian butt lift also tends to come with a longer recovery time than a fat transfer to the hip dips. Dr. Jonov will provide personalized recovery and aftercare instructions based on your unique procedure, health, and needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will A BBL Fix Hip Dips?

Yes, in many cases, Dr. Jonov can address the hip dips during a Brazilian butt lift surgery. Augmenting the buttocks can also further improve the contours of the body and improve the appearance of the hip and butt area.

Are There At-Home Ways To Get Rid Of Hip Dips?

Technically, there are some ways to potentially influence the look of your hip dips from home. Usually, this includes building muscle in the area through exercise. However, this is unlikely to make a significant difference that most patients want to see. It rarely—if ever—fully gets rid of hip dips.

This is especially true since hip dips often form due to our bone structure and not our fat or muscle composition. These structures can simply accentuate the existing dip. Using fat to fill this in can disguise the natural anatomy instead of trying to change it completely.

Can I Use Someone Else’s Fat?

No, fat grafting procedures of any kind are safest and only performed when using the patient’s own fat. Unlike your fat, your body can reject the fat which leads to major problems. If a patient is too thin for liposuction, Sculptra is the best alternative. While it does still carry a rejection risk, it is much less than someone else’s fat.

Is It Permanent?

Once healed, the transferred fat will have created a healthy blood supply and will act like all other fat on your body. Thus, you can technically lose it or gain more with major weight fluctuations. However, if you maintain a relatively stable weight, you can expect your results to remain permanent.
