Waxing Bellevue & Kirkland

Removing unwanted body hair has become part of a daily grooming routine. Typically, it is done through shaving, at-home wax kits, or electric razors. While at-home hair removal is usually effective, it can be time consuming and usually needs to be performed more often. When considering professional hair removal, waxing is usually one of the first options. Professional waxing services are more effective, less painful, and tend to last longer than at-home hair removal methods. The master estheticians at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery offer the best waxing Bellevue and Kirkland provides.

Overview: Bellevue Waxing Services

When compared to at home wax kits or strips, professional waxing is safer and more effective. The waxes found in at home kits are generic and not customized based on your skin and hair type. For example, those with sensitive skin may require hypoallergenic wax, while those with coarse, thick hair may need a harder wax. Professional waxes are also overall better quality.

Additionally, waxing at home can be time consuming. When waxing yourself, it may be difficult to see certain areas, it may require contorting, and it ultimately is not as effective when you have reduced visibility. Most people also do not have the time to solely focus on waxing. In a professional, medical grade setting, your master esthetician is fully focused on your service. They will be able to wax the hard to reach and see areas within seconds or minutes when compared to trying to do it at home.

The difficulties of at home hair removal also make it more likely that you will hurt yourself. Whether it be a wax burn, torn skin, or simply irritated, red skin, this is uncommon with professional hair removal services. They will also use aftercare to prevent irritation and long lasting redness.

Areas

The master estheticians at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery can wax nearly any area where you have unwanted hair. Along with temporary hair removal, our master estheticians also offer laser hair removal which also treats many of the same body areas. Some of the areas you can treat with professional waxing services include:

  • Underarms
  • Chin
  • Upper lip
  • Cheeks
  • Brows
  • Full legs
  • Arms
  • Stomach
  • Brazilian
  • Bikini
  • Back
  • Areola
  • Neck
  • Feet
  • Chest

Benefits

Waxing in Bellevue–especially by a professional–comes with many benefits. While it does not permanently remove hair, it is one of the longest lasting hair removal techniques currently available. Some of the benefits and advantages include:

  • Hair regrowth is often thinner and finer
  • Smoother finish
  • Can remove dead skin and provide some superficial exfoliation
  • Fewer ingrown hairs
  • No more razor burn
  • Cuts or abrasions less likely
  • Results last 3-5 weeks, while shaving may only last a few days
  • Takes less time than at home hair removal
  • Can be performed with a brow tint
  • Safer for treating more sensitive areas
  • Performed by a professional who uses techniques for limited pain and better results

Waxing vs. Sugaring vs. Shaving

Waxing is not the right hair removal technique for everyone. Some people may find more benefits or need other forms due to allergies, certain skin conditions, or preferences. Sugaring is another popular method that removes hair longer than shaving.

Beyond that, shaving is a frequently preferred method because it comes with little pain or expense. The table below details some of the differences and indications for these hair removal techniques.

WaxingSugaringShaving
  • Uses wax
  • Hair removed from the root
  • Removes hair opposite of growth pattern
  • Warmed to room temperature
  • Hair must be at least ¼ of an inch
  • Can be performed at home
  • Redness can occur
  • Not ideal for heat sensitive skin or areas
  • Can treat multiple skin and hair types
  • Uses a sugar paste/gel
  • Hair removed from the root
  • Removes hair in the direction of natural growth pattern
  • Room temperature
  • Can remove shorter hair
  • Not often performed at home
  • Redness less likely
  • Not ideal for larger areas like the legs
  • Can cause breakouts
  • Better for sensitive skin
  • Uses soap, cream, or lotion
  • Hair blunted to skin level
  • Hair removed in various directions
  • Can remove hair of various lengths
  • May require multiple passes
  • Almost always performed at home
  • Redness unlikely
  • May cause irritation, razor bumps, or cuts, some may be more prone to irritation from shaving

Determining the best temporary hair removal option for you is not always intuitive. Our master estheticians can examine your skin and hair types to conclude the right technique for you. In some cases, trying out multiple methods is necessary.

Before & After Waxing

Consultation

Before your first session at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery, you will sit down with one of our master estheticians to discuss your goals, treatment areas, and any concerns you have. They will then answer your questions and discuss whether they think waxing is the right hair removal choice for you. In some cases, they may recommend another method such as laser hair removal.

For patients that are not good candidates for laser hair removal, waxing offers a longer lasting solution than shaving. While not as effective at laser hair removal at permanently reducing hair, it is a better option than shaving.

If waxing is a good choice for you, they can likely perform the treatment the same day. It is quick and efficient and most areas can be addressed in under an hour. That said, if you’re wanting your full body treated, they may ask you to return for another appointment.

Wax Service

To prepare your skin, your master esthetician will cleanse and disinfect the treatment areas. They will also ensure that the hair is an appropriate length. At the same time, they will warm up and prepare the wax, heating it to the ideal temperature.

Once the wax and your skin are prepared, your master esthetician will then gently apply the wax to the treatment area. Typically, wax is applied in the direction of hair growth. Depending on if they are using soft or hard wax, your master esthetician will then use a strip to remove the wax and hair (soft). Or, they will remove the hardened wax by hand (hard).

They will repeat this process until all of the hair in the targeted area has been removed. Patients will likely feel some mild to moderate discomfort. Some areas will also be more sensitive than others. If pain is a concern for you, your master esthetician may recommend taking an over-the-counter pain reliever before your appointment.

Aftercare

Afterward, your master esthetician may give you some instructions to limit irritation and redness. Immediately after waxing, your master esthetician will apply some soothing lotions to calm the skin and prevent irritation. Over the next 24 hours or so, you may need to follow instructions like:

  • Do not take a warm bath or shower for 12 hours
  • Avoid tanning or sun exposure
  • Do not partake in heavy exercising or anything that could cause sweat to form
  • Avoid wearing tight clothing (cotton is best)
  • Do not touch the area for several hours (this includes intimate contact with other people)
  • Limit the use of beauty products in the treated area

Sweat and touching the area can not only irritate the but can lead to infections. While extremely rare, it can happen because the hair follicles need time to close. Otherwise, instructions are generally given to avoid irritation and redness. Other side effects like swelling and bruising are possible but unlikely. Some people with sensitive skin may stay red longer and experience mild swelling. This should subside within a day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Do Results Last?

Results tend to last between four and six weeks. For some people who wax regularly, they may find that subsequent session results last even longer. Even though hair will come back, the hair is usually finer and overall thinner. This means that the stubbly feeling of hair growth after shaving becomes less prominent.

Why Have Waxing Performed By A Master Esthetician?

Traditional estheticians and cosmetologists can perform waxing. Then, why choose to have your Bellevue waxing service performed by a master esthetician? Master estheticians have all the same qualifications as an esthetician. However, they took it a step further to gain medical skills and knowledge as it concerns the skin. Therefore, this allows them to recommend and perform the optimal treatments based on your unique skin and conditions.

Is It Better To Shave Or Wax?

It ultimately depends on your goals, skin, hair, and preferences. Waxing will result in longer lasting, smoother results. However, depending on certain factors, it may not be ideal. Your master esthetician can discuss the best hair removal technique for you during a consultation at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery.

Will It Cause Hair To Grow Back Thicker?

No, hair actually tends to come back thinner. While it does not permanently thin hair like laser hair removal, regular waxing appointments can keep hair finer than shaving does.

How Painful Is It?

Waxing is almost universally uncomfortable. However, for most people, it is perfectly tolerable. Brazilian waxing and certain areas of the face tend to be sensitive for most people. Thankfully, waxing is quick and our master estheticians use techniques to minimize pain. If you find waxing overly painful, you may consider alternative hair removal options.
