Renuvion Bellevue & Kirkland | J Plasma Bellevue & Kirkland

Around the age of 25, the body naturally begins losing more collagen and producing less. While this change is gradual at first, over time this can result in the formation of wrinkles and the loss of elasticity. Thus, this can lead to loose, saggy skin which is nearly impossible to get rid of without professional, cosmetic intervention. Previously, extra or loose skin could only be corrected via invasive surgery. However, with today’s technology, plastic surgeons like Dr. Craig Jonov can perform non-invasive skin tightening that is less invasive than traditional surgery. The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery performs the best Renuvion Bellevue and Kirkland can provide.

Overview: What Is Renuvion?

Renuvion is a form of skin tightening that uses a combination of helium gas and radiofrequency to create cold plasma energy. This cold plasma limits trauma to the skin while promoting tightening from within and underneath the skin tissues. Yet, while the plasma is cold, the radiofrequency creates heat, which also promotes the contraction of the skin.

While less invasive than traditional surgeries, patients are still usually sedated for the procedure. Though, it is common for Renuvion to be performed alongside surgery like liposuction or an arm lift. It is also often ideal for patients who cannot undergo traditional surgery for some reason based on health risks, age, or various other reasons.

Plasma Technology

Known as the fourth state of matter, examples of plasma energy include lightning, neon signs, and a welding arc. While not as common as the other states of matter–solids, liquids, and gases–plasma has been used in medicine for decades. It has been used in surgery for wound healing and the inactivation of bacteria. Doctors have also utilized plasma for the treatment of cancer, ulcers, warts, and tooth pain.

Cold plasma treatment is typically the most popular choice in medicine since it causes the least amount of damage to the skin. Dielectric Barrier Discharge is another type of plasma sometimes used in medicine. Within plastic surgery, cold plasma is the only type used.

Renuvion creates plasma via ionizing helium gas into helium plasma using radiofrequency. This is what results in the hot and cold dichotomy that provides the optimal skin tightening environment and results.

Benefits

Renuvion skin tightening comes with many benefits and advantages whether you choose to combine it with surgery or not. Some of the benefits of J plasma in Bellevue can include:

  • Tightens skin without invasive surgery
  • Applicable to almost any part of the body
  • Minimal trauma to the skin
  • Full general anesthesia is not always required
  • Natural looking results
  • Can be combined with other surgeries
  • Small incisions
  • Precise and effective
  • Works on adult patients of all ages
  • Can treat skin laxity due to age, weight loss, pregnancy, etc.
  • Minimal downtime and recovery

With Liposuction vs. Without Liposuction

As previously mentioned, J plasma treatment is often performed with other plastic surgeries. Most frequently, this is liposuction. Many people who have loose skin also have some extra fat. Liposuction can remove this before performing Renuvion to promote ideal results. However, depending on the patient’s anatomy and goals, it may not always be necessary or preferred. The table below details some of the differences and advantages of both procedures.

With LiposuctionWithout Liposuction
  • Removes fat in addition to tightening skin
  • Longer lasting results
  • Usually requires general anesthesia
  • More risk due to liposuction
  • Results may look more dramatic
  • Fat permanently removed from the area
  • Only tightens skin
  • May not require general anesthesia
  • Ideal for patients who only have a small amount of extra skin
  • Less risk
  • Results may look more subtle
  • Can gain fat back in the area
  • May benefit from lipo later

Ultimately, Dr. Jonov can help you determine whether undergoing Renuvion with liposuction or without will benefit you best. Both procedures are relatively common and Renuvion has been known to improve liposuction results since its introduction.

J Plasma From Start To Finish

Consultation

First, you will meet with Dr. Craig Jonov at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery for a consultation. At this appointment, Dr. Jonov will examine the area(s) you want to treat. This will help him determine if you have both extra skin and fat that need to be addressed or only skin.

Also during your consultation, Dr. Jonov may ask questions about your medical history and lifestyle as this can affect what variation of J plasma treatment is best for you. If Dr. Jonov believes that Renuvion is viable for you, he will then discuss the procedure more in-depth and you will receive finalized pricing.

Procedure

On the day of your procedure, an anesthesia provider will likely place you under general anesthesia to keep you comfortable. If necessary, Dr. Jonov will first perform liposuction to remove fat from the area. Through the same small incisions, he will then insert the Renuvion cannula just under the skin.

The combination of plasma and radiofrequency works below the skin to cause the skin to contract. Based on the number or size of the area(s), J plasma takes about an hour to perform. Dissimilar to lipo, the Renuvion cannula requires slower, more precise movements to adequately treat the skin.

Recovery

Once you wake up, you may not notice an immediate difference because the skin takes time to contract. This happens over the coming weeks and months. Normally, the most dramatic results settle within two to four months. Results, like with most plastic surgery, take around nine to twelve months to finalize.

Dr. Jonov usually recommends taking about seven to ten days to recover following Renuvion treatment. While you may feel good enough to return before then, it is important to let your body heal adequately. Following the procedure, you may experience some minor side effects such as:

  • Pain in the treatment area(s)
  • Minor swelling
  • Tightness
  • Redness/inflammation
  • Soreness/tenderness
  • Itchiness near incision sites

Scarring is usually minimal or non-existent once fully healed. Additionally, the small scars are hidden in natural folds or crevices of the body to make them imperceptible in most of daily life. To promote better healing and less scar formation, Dr. Jonov may recommend aftercare like:

  • Using propriety Scar Protocol
  • Wearing a compression garment
  • Taking an antibiotic or pain medication
  • Eat well with lots of protein
  • Avoid overly salty foods
  • Drink lots of water
  • Avoid strenuous exercise until otherwise instructed
