BULLHORN LIP LIFT IN SEATTLE, BELLEVUE, AND KIRKLAND

The lips serve as one of the focal points of the face and a popular area for cosmetic procedures. Plump, well shaped lips have become the standard. Lip fillers can provide natural looking augmentation and treatment of issues like asymmetry and lipstick lines. Fillers require regular maintenance to upkeep and results can vary each time based on injector and filler choice. Due to this, many patients opt for a more reliable and long lasting solution. Dr. Craig Jonov of The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery offers the bullhorn lip lift procedure to Seattle, Bellevue, and Kirkland.

WHAT IS A BULLHORN LIP LIFT?

A bullhorn lip lift, also called a subnasal lip lift, is a procedure that shortens the distance between the upper lip and nose. It reveals more of the pink part of the upper lip, which can benefit patients with thin upper lips. While it only addresses the upper lip, the results can change the overall appearance of the lips and face.

The subnasal lip lift was first performed in 1981. Since then, it has been refined and modified throughout the years. Until recently, the procedure was mostly performed on older patients, especially those undergoing facelifts, to address lip sagging that happens with age. As beauty standards shift and the appearance of the lips becomes more important, lips lifts have become increasingly popular.

The ideal length for the philtrum is 11 to 13 millimeters for women and 13 to 15 millimeters for men. Therefore, for people with a philtrum longer than this, it can lead to the upper lip looking thin, or for their lips to look too long or far from their nose. These changes can also appear with age.

Luckily, the Bellevue bullhorn lip lift procedure shortens the philtrum using hidden incisions in what is usually a well tolerated procedure. Along with a generally more proportionate face, a lip lift can provide many other benefits.

Benefits

A subnasal lip lift in Seattle carries many benefits for patients looking to enhance their lips. It can also address certain deformities or cosmetic concerns outside of lip augmentation. While plump lips without the use of fillers is one of the major benefits, other benefits of a Bellevue lip lift include:

  • Minimization of lipstick lines
  • Can enhance Cupid’s bow
  • Addresses naturally thin lips
  • Corrects asymmetric lips
  • Enhances smile
  • Improves look of long, flat lips
  • Increases size of smile and tooth show
  • Addresses lip sagging due to age
  • Can allow for discontinuation of fillers if desired

Additionally, personal benefits will range from patient to patient. Every Kirkland cosmetic surgery patient has unique goals for the appearance of their lips. Some are born with naturally thin lips or a smile that does not fully reveal their teeth, a bullhorn lip lift in Kirkland can correct these issues.

How Do The Lips Contribute To Overall Facial Appearance?

Along with treating specific cosmetic concerns of the lips and mouth, a lip lift can improve overall facial appearance. Facial symmetry is a delicate balance that requires perfect harmony of your features. This is especially true when it comes to the profile. A subnasal lip lift can provide more projection to the lips that will better align the lower third of your face with the upper thirds.

Dr. Jonov is an expert in facial symmetry and consistently aids patients in achieving their goals. He has a deep understanding of facial symmetry and he uses facial fillers and surgical methods to align the features.

What Other Procedures Go Well With Lip Enhancement?

Other plastic surgeries can complement lip lift results. As mentioned before, bullhorn lip lifts were often performed with facelifts to provide optimal results. This is still a possibility depending upon the individual patient. Other procedures that can benefit Kirkland bullhorn lip lift include:

HOW DOES A LIP LIFT IN BELLEVUE WORK?

There are many methods to perform a Bellevue lip lift. Dr. Craig Jonov at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery specializes in the bullhorn lip lift technique. We know deciding to undergo any cosmetic surgery is a difficult decision. Since we are dedicated to patient education, we aim to answer all of your questions and guide you on the journey to achieving your cosmetic goals.

Your Consultation

The first step in considering a lip lift is determining your candidacy. During a consultation, Dr. Jonov can decide whether a Bellevue lip lift is right for you. On the day of your consultation, you will come to our office where you can enjoy amenities like hot coffee, tea, juice, water, and freshly baked cookies.

At your consultation, Dr. Jonov will ask about your concerns with your lips and goals for the procedure. He will then review your medical history. Dr. Jonov will also describe the procedure, what you can expect from recovery, and answer any questions. Finally, he will perform a physical examination of the area. This will allow him to understand the possibilities for the surgery based on your skin laxity, unique features, and your goals.

If Dr. Jonov decides you are a candidate for a bullhorn lip lift, you will receive a price quote. At this point, you can decide whether you want to undergo the procedure and follow up consults are encouraged to answer any lingering questions.

Before Surgery

Three weeks before your surgery date, you will come in for your pre-operative visit. Here, you will review the specifics of your Bellevue subnasal lip lift and finalize the paperwork. Following this, your pre-operative coordinator will give you specific instructions for before your procedure.

In general, these instructions may include: temporarily discontinuing the use of certain medications, plans to make prior to surgery, when to last eat and drink before the procedure, and individualized instructions based on your medical history and goals.

During Surgery

The day of your bullhorn lip lift in Bellevue will begin with a quick check in process. Before surgery, Dr. Jonov will review your surgical plan with you and make marks to guide him during surgery. At this point, your vitals and other basic tests will be performed before a licensed anesthesiologist administers anesthesia.

Dr. Jonov will begin the lip lift by making an incision along the bottom of the nose. The incision follows along the nostrils and columella in a shape that resembles bullhorns. It follows the natural fold where your philtrum and nose meet to naturally hide scarring. Through this incision, Dr. Jonov will remove the required amount of skin that meets your aesthetic goals. Once finished removing skin, he will stitch the remaining skin to the bottom of the nose, closing the incision and providing a natural lift to your lips.

The entire procedure takes around one to two hours and is performed entirely in our accredited outpatient surgical center. Dr. Jonov uses the most advanced techniques to minimize scarring and recovery time.

After Surgery

Once you wake up from surgery, you will stay in recovery and monitored before we release you to your caregiver to begin recovery. You will notice some immediate difference in the appearance of your lips. Although, your final results will become visible as swelling goes down and skin settles.

Before you go home, Dr. Jonov will give you instructions to follow for an optimal recovery. Depending upon the specifics of your surgery, he may include personalized directions. You will also go home with reminders of your post-operative appointments. On average, lip lift patients spend 4-5 hours in our office on the day of surgery.

BULLHORN LIP LIFT VS. LIP FILLERS

Two of the most sought after lip enhancement procedures include the bullhorn lip lift and lip fillers. Both procedures can address similar concerns and achieve fuller, larger lips. However, depending on the look you desire and preferences, one procedure may better suit you over another.

Bullhorn Lip LiftLip Fillers
  • Surgical procedure
  • Long lasting
  • 48 hours of downtime
  • Physically shortens the philtrum, which can address issues like lack of teeth show
  • Can enhance with lip injections if desired
  • Non-surgical injections
  • Temporary; lasts between 3 months to 2 years based on filler
  • No downtime required
  • Results can vary after each procedure based on filler and injector
  • Treats top and bottom lip

Many dedicated lip filler patients decide to undergo a bullhorn lip lift in Kirkland because they become tired of refreshing their filler. For prospective lip lift patients, lip fillers may provide a good idea of their possible results. Additionally, some lip lift patients choose to continue lip fillers after their surgery to enhance their results.

RECOVERING AFTER LIP LIFT SURGERY

A Seattle bullhorn lip lift usually does not require a long recovery period. Since the surgical time is short and trauma minimized, many lip lift patients find themselves back to work in roughly one week. Each patient will require different amounts of downtime based on their medical history and response to surgery.

You may experience some minor side effects such as: swelling, redness, pain or discomfort, and bruising. These side effects should go away on their own in about a week. Residual swelling may take up to one or two months to fully dissipate, but is usually well hidden or not immediately noticeable.

To aid recovery, you may receive pain medication and an antibiotic. Additionally, you will need to be careful while eating and drinking the days following surgery. Dr. Jonov will give you instructions on your specific dietary requirements and restrictions.

Like before bullhorn lip lift surgery in Bellevue, you may need to continue refraining from certain medications. Often, this includes over-the-counter painkillers like Ibuprofen and Aspirin which can increase the risk of certain complications and lead to prolonged swelling. Dr. Jonov will ensure you have full post-operative instructions before leaving our office to begin your recovery.

    Results

The results of any Bellevue cosmetic surgery will take time to settle and heal. Lip lift results are no exception, usually taking at least 2 to 3 months before final results become visible. Some patients may not see their conclusive results for up to a year following surgery.

Luckily, you will see some immediate results following lip lift surgery. You should notice the philtrum distance has shortened and you may even notice that your lips look fuller. As swelling goes down, the incision heals, and skin settles, you can begin enjoying your new look.
