Breast Augmentation Vancouver, B.C.

The breasts are considered one of the most feminine parts of the body. Therefore, for women who have lost breast volume or have had small breasts their whole life, breast augmentation is a great option for helping these patients get larger breasts if they wish. Breast augmentation can also correct cosmetic abnormalities such as noticeable asymmetry or reconstruction of the breasts following cancer or an injury. If you decide to undergo breast augmentation, you deserve the best patient, even if it requires traveling. The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery caters to Vancouver residents seeking plastic surgery and provides the best breast augmentation Vancouver offers.

Overview: What Is Breast Augmentation?

In a straightforward sense, breast augmentation is the enlargement of the breasts. The procedure is one of the most popular plastic surgeries in the world and is usually performed for cosmetic reasons. Normally, patients and surgeons use breast implants to achieve this. However, plastic surgeons now have many options for achieving breast augmentation.

Breast augmentation is performed in nearly every major city around the world. Though, Dr. Craig Jonov at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery is one of the top breast augmentation experts in the United States. He has over a decade of experience and performs multiple breast augmentation surgeries every week. The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery also offers concierge services to help you work out the logistics of your breast augmentation procedure.

Types Of Breast Augmentation Surgery

As previously mentioned, plastic surgeons can use many different techniques to augment the breasts. Most include breast implants, but non-implant options do exist. Breast surgery is continually evolving and more surgeons are offering innovative ways to augment the breasts.

Inframammary Fold

Using an incision in the inframammary fold is the most common and traditional way to place breast implants. Making a small incision along the natural crease at the bottom of the breast, Dr. Jonov then creates a pocket and places the breast implant. This is considered one of the lowest risk techniques and perfected over decades of breast augmentation surgeries.

Additionally, an inframammary incision is usually hidden by the augmented breast itself. Otherwise, most bras and bathing suits cover the area.

Periareolar

Periareolar breast augmentation uses an incision where the skin pigment changes at your areola. The process is then similar to the inframammary technique. Dr. Jonov will create a pocket for the breast implant and place it before stitching the incision. This method is not preferred for people who prioritize nipple sensation or want to breastfeed in the future.

The primary cases where Dr. Jonov may recommend this approach is if the patient wants to change the size of their nipples or lift them slightly. Otherwise, Dr. Jonov will likely recommend other techniques since this one comes with some risks of affecting the feeling and functionality of the nipples.

Transaxillary

Transaxillary breast augmentation is growing in practice and popularity. This surgical technique involves making an incision in the armpit and placing the implant through the upper breast tissue. One advantage of this technique is that when the implants are placed under the muscle, the pectoral often does not need extensive excision (or possibly no excision). This can reduce post-operative discomfort and recovery time.

This method can accommodate all types of breast implants and is a great option for patients who want to keep scars off their breasts. Also, the underarms are also unlikely to form raised scarring, even in people prone to them. While not guaranteed, this technique can reduce the risk of unfavorable scarring.

Transumbilical

The transumbilical breast augmentation procedure is the newest evolution in breast implant placement. Using an incision inside the belly button, a tunnel is created under the skin and a saline breast implant is placed in the breasts. Due to the nature of this surgery, it can only accommodate saline implants since they are placed empty.

While this method is only performed by a few surgeons worldwide, The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery is one of the few plastic practices near Vancouver, BC that can perform transumbilical breast augmentation.

Fat Transfer

Fat transfer to the breasts–also known as a fat transfer breast augmentation–is the only surgical breast augmentation method that does not include a traditional breast implant. Using liposuction to harvest fat, it is then injected into the breasts to naturally augment the breasts. This looks and feels the most natural out of all breast augmentation options.

However, the one downside to fat transfer to the breasts is that it is less predictable and can only take the breasts up one or two cup sizes. For patients wanting only a moderate augmentation, fat transfer is a great option.

Frequently Asked Breast Augmentation Questions

Do You Need A Mammogram Before Breast Augmentation?

Potentially, though Dr. Jonov will decide this before surgery. If you are up to date on your mammograms and have no increased cancer risk, Dr. Jonov may not deem it necessary to have a mammogram before a breast augmentation. Therefore, this is something he will discuss with you at your consultation.

How Soon After Breast Augmentation Can Capsular Contracture Occur?

Most cases of capsular contracture happen within two years of breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Jonov helps prevent capsular contracture by recommending all of his patients undergo ultrasound lymphatic massages. While many cases happen fairly soon after breast augmentation, capsular contracture can technically happen at any time after surgery. Though, the risk goes down significantly after the first two to three years.

How Long Do The Results Last?

Breast augmentation can last several years, if not a lifetime. Modern breast implants are more durable and often come with lifetime warranties.

Is The Recovery Painful?

Breast augmentation patients do feel some mild pain following surgery. It is generally well controlled with prescribed medications. Chest tightness, general pain, and discomfort are common. Placing the implants under the muscle can make recovery slightly more painful. Still, patients tend to tolerate a breast augmentation recovery well.

What Is The Cost Of Breast Augmentation For Patients Coming From Vancouver, B.C.?
