QWO BELLEVUE AND KIRKLAND | NON-SURGICAL CELLULITE TREATMENT BELLEVUE AND KIRKLAND

Losing weight remains one of the most popular goals among people of all ages to alter the look of their body. However, an even more common cosmetic concern is cellulite. Cellulite can occur on people of all shapes and sizes and is notoriously difficult to get rid of. Recently, the FDA approved an injectable treatment known as Qwo, to reduce and treat the appearance of cellulite. Dr. Craig Jonov at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery is among the first to offer the best Qwo Bellevue and Kirkland provides.

OVERVIEW: WHAT IS CELLULITE?

The term cellulite refers to when the skin appears dimpled or lumpy. Some compare the look of cellulite to cottage cheese or an orange peel. Though, it can appear more mildly as well. While cellulite is often associated with fat, the two are not synonymous. Fat and weight gain do appear to be factors in the development of cellulite. Yet, people of all sizes who have gained little weight can experience cellulite.

Cellulite is most commonly found on body parts that naturally carry extra fat such as the thighs, abdomen, hips, and buttocks. It also is more common in women than men. Overall, cellulite is a harmless condition that most women will experience during their lifetimes.

Causes

The root scientific cause of cellulite is not fully understood. In simple terms, cellulite forms when fat cells increase and push up against the skin. Between fat cells, a structure known as fibrous septae connects the skin and muscles. When the fat pushes against the skin, the septae stay put and create tension which causes a dimpled appearance.

Based on this understanding, it may seem logical that weight fluctuation may be the main cause of cellulite. However, this is not wholly true. Many factors contribute to the formation of cellulite. Among the possible causes and influences on cellulite include:

  • Genetics
  • Aging
  • Weight gain
  • Hormonal imbalances or issues
  • Thinning skin
  • Pregnancy
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Inactivity

Along with the above factors, smoking can worsen or make you more susceptible to the formation of cellulite. Also, as stated before, the formation of cellulite is not always linked to weight. Many slim people also have cellulite and many with extra weight do not. Numerous factors contribute to cellulite development.

Treatment

While cellulite does not require medical treatment, it can make wearing shorts or a swimsuit a stressful experience. It is estimated that 90% of women have cellulite and many want to find treatments to eliminate it.

Before the FDA approval of Qwo, there were effective options for treating cellulite. However, they were often not long lasting, or required daily application. A few examples of other cellulite treatments include:

  • Laser treatment
  • Radiotherapy
  • Compression garments
  • Subcision
  • Liposuction
  • Sound wave therapy
  • Retinol creams
  • Caffeine cream
  • Other medicated cellulite creams and lotions
  • Weight loss
  • Exercise

Since there are different causes of cellulite and varying severities, certain treatments may work better for some patients. Patients may also use more than one method to reduce cellulite. During a consultation, Dr. Jonov can discuss your cellulite concerns and the treatments that may work best for you.

    HOW QWO WORKS

Qwo uses injections of collagenases which break down the peptide bonds in collagen. The fibrous septae are primarily made of collagen and Qwo weakens these bonds to release the tension that causes cellulite. With this tension released, fat cells distribute more evenly in the buttock. The injections themselves also stimulate collagen production in the skin to thicken the skin which can disguise the appearance of cellulite.

Currently, Qwo is only FDA approved for treating cellulite in the buttocks of women. Clinical trials continue for other treatment areas and indications. For the treatment of cellulite on the buttocks, Qwo has proven to be safe and effective.

    Benefits

Individual benefits of cellulite treatment will vary based on a patient’s goals. However, as one of the most effective cellulite reduction techniques currently available, Qwo offers many benefits and advantages to patients. Some of the advantages include:

    • Reduction or elimination in the appearance of cellulite
    • Less dimpling and smoother skin
    • More youthful looking skin and buttocks
    • Results in a matter of weeks
    • Long lasting results
    • Safe procedure
    • Minimally invasive
    • Non-surgical
    • Requires no downtime
    • May improve the results of BBL surgery

BEFORE AND AFTER NON-SURGICAL CELLULITE TREATMENT

    Consultation

Before undergoing Qwo cellulite treatment in Bellevue, you will need to attend a consultation at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery. At this consultation, you and your provider will discuss your cellulite concerns, medical history, and goals. Your provider will examine your cellulite and recommend a course of action based on your anatomy. This may include Qwo treatment.

Most healthy women are good candidates for non-surgical cellulite treatment. The injections come with few risks, however, they may not always be the recommended treatment. If you are allergic to collagenase, Qwo treatment is not right for you. Also, in severe cases of cellulite, you may need surgery, multiple Qwo treatments, or a combination of therapies.

Your provider will discuss all of these considerations with you during a consultation. Occasionally, you may be able to commence with treatment the same day as your consultation if you are a candidate.

    Injections

Qwo injections take place in three separate sessions spaced 21 days apart. This accounts for one Qwo treatment. In some patients with mild cellulite, this may provide an adequate reduction in dimpling from cellulite. Other patients may need a few treatments in different areas of the buttocks.

The injections of the dimples take only a few minutes. First, your provider will inject the dimple at a perpendicular angle. Pulling the needle back, but not withdrawing it, they will change the angle of the needle forward. Repeating this, they will then angle the needle back towards your feet and finish the injection.

Patients typically remain comfortable during injections and the treatment is fairly painless. Anesthesia is not necessary. Topical numbing creams are available when requested.

    Recovery

Unlike surgical cellulite treatments and other injections, Qwo does not require any downtime or carry any restrictions. You may experience some side effects in the week or so following treatment. Side effects may include bruising, swelling, redness, itchiness, and slight discomfort. Often, these side effects occur most prominently near the injection sites.

You do not need to take time off work or alter your exercise routine in any way. If you experience bruising or discomfort, this is temporary and does not affect the final results. You can also take Tylenol if needed.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT QWO

    Does Qwo Work?

Qwo has shown great promise and success in clinical trials. Tested for over seven years in the largest clinical trial performed for cellulite treatment, Qwo reduced cellulite in most participants. While Qwo tends to reduce dimpling, it may not eliminate it, especially in patients with severe cellulite.

Your provider can offer better insight into the kind of results you can expect after a consultation. At the initial consultation, they will examine your anatomy to determine the best treatment and the possible results.

Will Losing Weight Get Rid Of Cellulite?

It might, though it is not guaranteed. Weight loss may reduce the look of cellulite. However, as discussed many factors impact cellulite. Therefore, losing weight may or may not improve the look of cellulite.

    Are Qwo Results Permanent?

Clinical trials have provided evidence that the results from Qwo are long lasting. Natural weight changes may affect results and subsequent Qwo treatments can address this. Additionally, aging can also cause changes due to thinning skin and sagging that occurs naturally. However, Qwo treatment appears to reduce cellulite much longer than comparable non-surgical cellulite treatments.

Will Cellulite Go Away On Its Own?

Sometimes. As our bodies change and weight fluctuates, this can cause cellulite to naturally resolve. Occasionally, exercise or topical treatments will lessen cellulite as well. This largely depends on the overall cause of the cellulite as well as factors such as your age and skin laxity. However, exercise, at-home remedies, and time are not guaranteed to make a difference in the appearance of your cellulite.

When Will I See The Results Of Qwo?

Patients tend to see results of Qwo treatment after their second session. However, this will depend on the severity of your dimpling and individual healing. Everyone’s body will respond differently to Qwo injections. Therefore, some patients may see results sooner or later than average.

After a consultation, your provider can give you a more accurate idea of when you may see results. Since Qwo treats small sections, each round of treatment (consisting of three sessions) addresses a few deep dimples or a small area.
