Revision Rhinoplasty
If you have had rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, in the past and are looking to repair problems from your previous surgery, you may consider revision rhinoplasty.
Facial surgeon Dr. Craig Jonov performs revision rhinoplasty in Seattle to help you regain your confidence, achieve your desired appearance, and repair any structural damage hindering the function of your nose.
Revision Rhinoplasty is best for:
- Correcting trauma to the nose
- Improving the size of the nose
- Improving the width of the nose
- Improving the profile of the nose
- Improving the nasal tip and nostril shape
- Correcting asymmetry of the nose
If you are considering revision rhinoplasty, you should have reasonable expectations about the outcome. During a consultation with Dr. Jonov, you can discuss any concerns you have about your nose and determine if revision rhinoplasty can help.
What to Expect During Revision Rhinoplasty
The revision rhinoplasty procedure can last between one and three hours, and is typically performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation.
Your revision rhinoplasty may be performed as an open surgery in which the incision is made across the columella, the area under the nasal tip and between the nostrils, or as a closed procedure in which all incisions are made inside the nose. Once Dr. Jonov has gained access to the region of the nose that will be treated, he will begin to reshape the bone and cartilage.
Depending on what is needed to bring the nose into balance, the bone and cartilage may be reduced, augmented or refined. In some cases the nose will need to be fractured. Cartilage may be grafted from other areas of your body, such as the ear or septum, if necessary.
To finish the procedure, absorbable sutures are placed within the nose. Nasal packing is used to control bleeding and a special splint may also be put in place to support the nose during recovery.
Recovery After Revision Rhinoplasty
Most patients are able to return to their normal routine in one to two weeks following surgery. Don’t be alarmed if the swelling in your nose does not diminish quickly, as it takes some time to subside.
It may also take some time for you to adjust to your new appearance, so keep that in mind. With patience and a bit of caution against activities with potential for nose impact, most patients are able to appreciate their new nose within three to six months.
