The First FDA-Approved Oral Semaglutide for Weight Management
Weight management is not always as simple as it sounds. Even with healthy habits, the body can make it difficult to feel full and satisfied. Prescription medications can help address this, but the idea of injections can be a concern for some patients.
The Wegovy® pill offers a non-injectable alternative. It is the first FDA-approved oral GLP-1 medication for chronic weight management. At The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery, we offer Wegovy® prescriptions for Bellevue and Kirkland patients after a complete medical evaluation.
What Is the Wegovy® Pill?
The Wegovy® pill is a prescription medication designed to support medical weight management in adults who meet specific criteria. Most GLP-1 medications till now were delivered by injection, but Wegovy® tablets are taken orally once per day. The active ingredient, semaglutide, helps regulate appetite and promote a sense of fullness. Wegovy® tablets are FDA-approved for chronic weight management when used alongside diet and increased physical activity.
How Wegovy® Works for Weight Loss
After eating, the body naturally releases a hormone called GLP-1, which helps signal fullness and slow hunger. Wegovy® activates GLP-1 pathways, helping the brain detect satisfaction sooner and reduce overall calorie intake. This can support healthier eating patterns and can contribute to weight management over time. Wegovy® may help by:
- Supporting feelings of fullness at meals
- Reducing hunger between meals
- Helping manage cravings and portion size
- Encouraging balanced, nutritious food choices
- Supporting more consistent eating habits
Wegovy® is not a standalone solution. It is designed to be combined with a balanced diet and regular physical activity.

Who May Qualify for Wegovy® Pills in Bellevue and Kirkland?
Prescription weight-loss medications are prescribed based on medical criteria. In general, adults may qualify if they:
- Have a BMI of 30 or greater (obesity), or
- Have a BMI of 27 or greater (overweight) with at least one weight-related health condition
A thorough consultation at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery can help confirm eligibility. During evaluation, we review:
- Current and past medications
- Weight history and prior weight-loss attempts
- Blood pressure, cholesterol, and related health markers
- Medical conditions and risk factors
- Lifestyle factors like sleep, nutrition, and physical activity
How to Take Wegovy® Tablets
Taking Wegovy® the right way can help your body absorb the medication properly. Follow these steps each day:
- Take one Wegovy® tablet in the morning on an empty stomach.
- Use plain water only (up to 4 ounces).
- Swallow the tablet whole. Do not chew, crush, or split it.
- Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other oral medications.
- If you miss a dose, skip it and take your next dose the following day at your usual time.

Wegovy® Pill Dosing Schedule
To reduce digestive side effects and support tolerance, Wegovy® tablets are started at a lower dose and gradually increased over time. The following is the standard schedule, but we may tailor it based on your individual assessment:
- Days 1–30: 1.5 mg once daily
- Days 31–60: 4 mg once daily
- Days 61–90: 9 mg once daily
- Day 91 and beyond: 25 mg once daily (maintenance dose)
Only one tablet should be taken per day. If side effects occur, we may adjust the pace of dose increases.
How Much Weight Can Patients Lose on the Wegovy® Pill?
Adults taking Wegovy® tablets once daily and following the treatment plan in clinical trials achieved an average weight loss of about 16–17% of total body weight. Individual results vary widely based on:
- Dose tolerance: How well the body adjusts to higher doses.
- Consistency: Taking medication daily as prescribed.
- Food choices: Eating balanced, nutrient-rich meals.
- Protein intake: Helps preserve lean muscle and supports fullness.
- Activity level: Regular movement enhances results.
- Sleep: Good sleep supports appetite regulation.
- Stress: Chronic stress can affect eating behavior.
- Maintenance: Continuing healthy habits and follow-up care helps prevent weight regain.

Common Side Effects
GLP-1 medications, including Wegovy®, can affect digestion, especially during dose increases. Some patients may experience:

- Fatigue
These symptoms often decrease as your body adapts to the medication. To help reduce discomfort, patients may be advised to:

We may adjust dosing if side effects persist.
Safety Considerations
Because Wegovy® is a prescription medication, it should be used only under medical supervision. Before prescribing, we carefully review your medical history to ensure this medication is right for you. Important safety considerations include:
