Do Lip Fillers Damage Your Lips?

As one of the top cosmetic procedures of the past decade, people have many questions about lip filler injections. From which is better between Juvederm and Restylane to the risks of the procedure, patients want to know as much as possible before undergoing lip filler injections. At The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery, we foster an environment of transparency and patient education. Thus, we do our best to answer all questions they may have. One question patients sometimes ask is, “Do lip fillers damage your lips?”   Lip fillers—when administered properly and with hyaluronic acid fillers—are unlikely to cause damage to your lips. The needle pricks will heal like any other needle poke on your body. Thus, most of the time, there is no scarring and the lips will return to normal once the filler dissolves.    In the cases where fillers do cause damage to the lips, there are usually predictable factors. First, if the patient routinely overfilled their lips for a long period of time, this may cause some stretching of the area or even wrinkling. This is quite rare, but possible. Next, an inexperienced or unqualified provider is more likely to cause damage to the lips due to poor quality supplies, bad technique, or use of inauthentic fillers.   Finally, while less common now, some people underwent silicone lip injections that used industrial grade silicone. This was one of the top causes of lip damage from fillers for years. To learn more and schedule a consultation, call us at 425-775-3561. Are There Risks Of Long Term Juvederm Use?

By | Juvederm®, Injectable Fillers, Injectables
Dermal fillers are one of the safest cosmetic procedures currently available. However, like any medication or treatment, many patients wonder if there are long term effects of regularly Juvederm use. Let’s take a look at the question, “Are there risks of long term Juvederm use?”   Generally, most adverse effects or complications of fillers appear within a few weeks of the injections—often much sooner. They are also almost always treatable and leave no permanent effects. The only real long term effects of Juvederm come down to those who scar, have a long lasting inflammatory response, or filler fatigue.   Scarring after injections of any kind is rare. However, if done improperly, injured following the injection, or a complication occurs, scarring can happen. There are treatments that can help reduce scarring. This is uncommon. Though, even less common is a long term inflammatory response. If you regularly use fillers, this is unlikely to happen, but in people new to fillers (or a particular filler) inflammatory responses or allergic reactions can last weeks. While most resolve much sooner, it is a rare possibility.   The more common long term effect is known as filler fatigue. When you keep up with your filler, sometimes the natural aging process can be shocking when letting filler dissolve out completely. This can be exacerbated by overfilling.    To learn more and schedule a consultation, call us at 425-775-3561. You can also reach out online via chat, contact form, or Price Simulator.

Which Juvederm Is The Best For The Lips?

By | Juvederm®, Injectable Fillers, Injectables
Juvederm dermal fillers are approved for use all around the face. However, arguably their most common usage is in the lips. Their main competitor Restylane makes fillers specifically for each area, but this is not the philosophy behind Juvederm. Therefore, patients sometimes wonder, “Which Juvederm is the best for the lips?” Ultimately, it depends on the results you want. One of the most commonly used Juvederm fillers in the lips is Juvederm Ultra Plus. This is because it is a highly versatile filler that has a natural feeling consistency. Juvederm fillers do tend to be thicker than their Restylane counterparts. Therefore, if a patient prefers a more dramatic result, then Juvederm fillers are likely the best choice. While not frequently used, some thicker Juvederm fillers such as Juvederm Voluma can be used in the lips. However, it is important to note that not all providers may be comfortable performing this. With that said, many patients who are regular lip filler patients and like the most dramatic lip appearance may lean towards these longer lasting, thicker Juvederm fillers. If you are a first time lip filler patient interested in Juvederm, then Juvederm Ultra or Juvederm Ultra Plus are probably the best fillers for you. What Filler Is Best For The Temples?

By | Nonsurgical, Juvederm®, Injectable Fillers, Injectables, Voluma
The temples are among one of the areas of the face that loses volume first. In fact, even just an active lifestyle can lead to hollowed out temples. Therefore, temple filler is becoming a more popular treatment to round out the face and provide a more youthful appearance. Patients often like to know the dermal filler that will give them the best results so they may ask, “What filler is best for the temples?” The best filler for the temples will vary based on the patient, their anatomy, and their goals. Typically, the temples require more filler than other areas because of how much space is present. Additionally, the temples, even though they carry a small amount of fat, are a rather bony area. Therefore, a softer filler is usually not preferred.  The fillers that the injectors at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery use may include fillers such as Restalyne Defyne, Juvederm Voluma, and Restylane Refyne. Nearly any dermal filler can be used in the temples if the patient is the right candidate for that particular filler. Your injector will discuss the numerous options available during your consultation. To schedule a consultation with an injector at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery, call us at 425-775-3561. What Is The Best Filler For The Chin?

By | Chin Augmentation, Juvederm®, Injectable Fillers
Chin filler–also known as a non-surgical chin augmentation–is becoming a popular procedure because it can make improvements to the jawline, facial profile, and symmetry. Chin augmentation traditionally uses surgical methods to place a chin implant. However, with new techniques, many patients with more minor concerns can undergo non-surgical procedures to achieve the results they want. When inquiring about chin filler, patients often want to know, “What is the best filler for the chin?”   Hyaluronic acid fillers Juvederm and Restylane are the two most frequently used dermal fillers for the chin. Considering the chin is bony, thicker fillers tend to work better in this area. Juvederm Voluma is a popular choice and usually provides good results when injected into the chin. This filler also lasts the longest among hyaluronic acid fillers.   Restylane Lyft which is often used in the cheeks can also provide good results in the chin. Of the Restylane filler options, Lyft is one of the thicker options that is still malleable and well suited to the area. Occasionally, other fillers such as Radiesse may also be used in the chin. Though, this is largely on a case-by-case basis. Your injector will discuss your filler options and the best one for your chin filler in Bellevue.   To learn more and schedule a consultation, call us at 425-775-3561. How Long Does Dermal Filler Swelling Last?

By | Juvederm®, Injectable Fillers, Injectables, Restylane® SILK
Patients can experience swelling following any type of dermal filler injection. While not every patient will have swelling after fillers, those that do often want to get rid of it as soon as possible. There are many ways to address swelling, though how long swelling lasts will largely depend on individual factors. For patients who do experience swelling often want to know, “How long does dermal filler swelling last?” In most cases, swelling will completely subside within two weeks. With that said, swelling usually becomes imperceptible or unnoticeable in a week. To prevent and aid in the reduction of swelling, there are some things you can do.  Immediately following injections, you should plan not to partake in any strenuous activities for around twenty-four hours. Light exercise and most daily activities are fine. However, you should especially avoid anything in the area where you received filler. For most areas, this may include bending forward or unnecessary lip movements (for lip filler). Elevating the head of the bed the night after your injections can also reduce the chances of swelling. Also, certain over-the-counter painkillers like ibuprofen and aspirin can worsen swelling. Avoiding these medications for a couple of days before and after your procedure can help prevent swelling. If you do experience swelling, continuing to avoid these medications may help. Additionally, some supplements such as Arnica Montana may promote a reduction in swelling.  To schedule a consultation, call us at 425-775-3561. Juvederm Bellevue: What Juvederm Is Best For Lips?

By | Juvederm®, Injectable Fillers
Juvederm makes a variety of hyaluronic acid fillers for various areas of the face including the cheeks, folds, and lips. Lip filler continues to be one of the most popular non-surgical procedures in the United States. Juvederm is one of the top filler manufacturers for lips. However, Juvederm offers many filler options. What Juvederm is best for lips? Most Juvederm fillers can achieve a good result in the lips. As far as what filler was designed specifically for use in the lips, that would include Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus. The injectors at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery routinely use Juvederm fillers in the lips and can determine which Juvederm product will give you the best results. Juvederm Ultra Plus consists of a thicker formula than Juvederm Ultra. It also tends to last longer. This thicker formula may not suit all lip filler patients or goals. Patients who want extremely subtle results or who want a more malleable filler may find that Juvederm Ultra best serves their needs. In general, Juvederm lip fillers last between three months and one year depending on the filler you receive and biological factors. Are Fillers The Only Lip Augmentation Option?

By | Juvederm®, Injectable Fillers, Fat Transfer, Restylane® SILK
Dermal fillers like Restylane and Juvederm are the most popular way to plump the lips. The filler has few risks or side effects and often looks and feels natural. Lip fillers also have an easy reversal option and patients can choose to not refresh their filler. This makes it one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures.    Are fillers the only lip augmentation option? The short answer is no. There are other surgical and non-surgical options that can enhance the appearance of your lips. Starting with the non-surgical lip enhancements other than fillers, BOTOX injections can be used to bring out more of the upper lip to treat the appearance of thinness. This treatment–known as a BOTOX lip flip–does not usually affect the bottom lip.    Many regular filler patients tire of routine injections and want to find a more permanent lip augmentation option. For these patients, silicone lip implants can sometimes provide lower maintenance lip augmentation. Lip implants require a larger amount of commitment because the removal process is not as seamless as fillers. For some patients who regularly have fillers or who require larger scale corrections, lip implants may be an option that saves money in the long run. Fat transfer to the lips is another surgical option that can last longer than dermal fillers.    To schedule a consultation with Dr. Jonov, call us at 425-775-3561 or contact us online.

Why Facial Volume Is So Important

By | Juvederm®, Injectables, Restylane® SILK
As we age, our faces slowly lose volume. As the issue progresses, the eyes can take on a sunken appearance, folds and wrinkles can start to form, and the entire face may begin to look withered. If facial-volume loss is taking a heavy toll on the natural beauty of your face, it may be time to look into what dermal fillers can do for you. Dermal fillers are special injectable products that are designed to restore lost facial volume. When injected into the desired area, the dermal fillers help to fill in and lift the skin, which reduces the appearance of folds and wrinkles and enhances the contours of the face. At The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery, we utilize Restylane and Juvederm products. Both of these products utilize hyaluronic acid, a substance that can be found naturally in the body. Hyaluronic acid helps to strengthen, nourish, and hydrate the skin. When injected into the desired areas, Restylane and Juvederm products instantly add volume and help retain moisture in the skin. These injectables are the ideal choice for filling in folds and wrinkles and restoring the full appearance of your cheeks. Both Restylane and Juvederm offer results that look incredibly natural. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Craig Jonov can discuss the benefits of each product in order to help you find the one that can provide you with your ideal aesthetic results.
